Carl always remembered to send birthday cards with a monetary gift, especially to the younger ones. Carl was one of the last of a dying breed of true cowboys. He was one of the few men of his era who was able to solely provide for his family and make a living from the cattle industry. In 1973, Carl earned the honor of being named Choctaw County Rancher of the Year. He was also a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattlemen’s Association. Carl thoroughly enjoyed working hard, and he was known by many as “the hardest worker they knew.” He was a great horseman and cattleman.
He is also survived by numerous sister- and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews from both sides of the family as well as his only cousin Leanne Heaton.
